MPs Call for Urgent Government Support for UK Hospitality and Tourism

Cross-Party MPs Demand Action to Protect UK Hospitality Sector
A cross-party group of MPs, led by the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Hospitality and Tourism, is calling on the Government to deliver urgent support for the UK’s hospitality and tourism sector — one of the country’s most economically significant industries.
Rising Costs and Tax Pressures Threaten Industry Stability
In a letter to the Chancellor, MPs highlight mounting concerns from local pubs, family-run hotels, visitor attractions and night-time venues. Many businesses report that rising operating costs and what industry leaders consider an outdated and unfair tax system are restricting growth.
The hospitality and tourism sector employs 3.5 million people and contributes £93 billion to the UK economy each year, making it one of Britain’s most important job creators and drivers of local economic activity.
MPs Call for Business Rates Reform and VAT Review
The APPG is urging the Government to introduce a series of targeted reforms to strengthen the sector, including:
Comprehensive reform of business rates
A fairer approach to employer National Insurance contributions
A review of VAT rates for hospitality and tourism to bring the UK in line with European competitors
MPs argue these measures would unlock investment, support job creation and help revitalise high streets, coastal towns and visitor destinations across the country.
Hospitality Seen as Central to Community and Growth
The APPG Chair emphasised that hospitality is more than just food, drink and leisure — it plays a vital role in supporting communities, creating opportunities and driving pride in local areas. With a supportive policy framework, MPs say the sector can once again be at the forefront of the UK’s growth and regeneration plans.
Government Urged to Act Ahead of the Budget
MPs are urging the Chancellor to listen to the concerns of sector leaders and provide meaningful support in the upcoming Budget to ensure the long-term resilience and competitiveness of the UK hospitality and tourism industry.
