Labour Ministers and MPs Attend SME4Labour Yorkshire Business Fundraiser in 2026

Senior Labour figures, MPs and party supporters attended SME4Labour’s Yorkshire fundraiser dinner last week, in an event focused on engagement between the business community and Labour policymakers in 2026.

The dinner brought together speakers and attendees from across government, Parliament and the small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector. Contributors included Jade Botterill, Kate Dearden, Marie Tidball, Peter Kyle, Ed Miliband, Yvette Cooper and Anna Turley.

The event formed part of SME4Labour’s ongoing programme of business engagement since Labour entered government, with a focus on building links between SMEs and policymakers. According to organisers, the format is intended to facilitate direct discussion between business leaders and political representatives on economic conditions and policy priorities affecting regional and national growth.

Several attendees hold senior positions within government in 2026. Peter Kyle serves as Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology. Ed Miliband leads the Energy Security and Net Zero brief, and Yvette Cooper serves as Home Secretary. Their attendance reflected the presence of senior cabinet representation at the event.

The gathering also included MPs representing Yorkshire constituencies elected in 2024, including Jade Botterill, Kate Dearden and Marie Tidball. All three have since become active participants in parliamentary and regional policy discussions, with a focus on constituency and sector engagement.

Discussions at the event were understood to centre on issues relevant to SMEs, including economic growth, access to finance, skills development, regional investment and the business environment. The Yorkshire-based setting was presented by organisers as part of a wider effort to engage businesses outside Westminster and London.

SME4Labour said the event was intended to provide a forum for dialogue between business and political figures, particularly at a time when SME policy and regional economic development remain areas of focus for government in 2026.
